The bowling alley is probably the last place you'd think of going for a sit-down dinner with cloth napkins and tablecloths. The Alley at
Aiea Bowl is trying to change that with their Tasty Tuesday menu. One day a week (Tuesdays), patrons can come for a fine dining experience with a prix fixe menu of five courses for $39.00.
You can tell which tables are reserved for Tasty Tuesday customers - they are covered with a black tablecloth, polished silverware, and the Tasty Tuesday menu.
Tonight's menu started with biscuit cheese balls (which was not on the menu and not one of the 5 courses).
The biscuit is crispy on the outside. The cheese is inside the biscuit.
First Course: Alley Style Smoked Salmon with cream cheese on a garlic bagel chip - delicious.
Second Course: Asian BBQ Lamb Riblets with coleslaw. The ribs were a little on the cold side (not sure if it's due to the coleslaw underneath which need to be kept cold) but very tasty.
Third Course: Pasta Parmagiano Reggiano (linguine pasta tossed in a cheese wheel from Parma, Italy topped with prosciutto di parma and fresh basil). This dish is made right before you eyes. The chef dunks the pre-cooked linguine into a pot filled with chicken broth and butter, then placed into the cheese wheel. The heat from the noodles causes the cheese to melt onto the pasta.
The chef scrapes the sides of the cheese to add more cheese to the pasta.
And here's what it looks like after he tops it with prosciutto and basil.
Fourth Course: Pan Seared Opah with black forbidden rice and Asian Vegetables. By then, we were all pretty full, but took a few bites of this course to see how it tasted. Very tasty.
Fifth Course: Creme Brulee in a chocolate cup. Even though we were full from the previous four courses, we saved enough room for dessert. The creme brulee and chocolate complimented each other very well.
