Off-Island: Rainforest Cafe

We have a new feature on My Island Views - "Off-Island," in which we feature restaurants, hotels, and more from our travels beyond the state of Hawaii!

Our first off-island feature focuses on dining - Rainforest Cafe!

We went to the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney.  We've been to another Rainforest Cafe before so we expected there would be a wait (reservations are recommended), and there was indeed a wait - a 35 minute wait.

We didn't mind at all, because we had planned to walk around Downtown Disney.  However, as the hostess was putting my name down, she accidentally hit something in the queue system and said "Oops, I can actually seat you now!"

We totally lucked out.  DH's friend happened to make reservations for a specific time, and they were still waiting even after their reservation time passed.

Well, once we got seated, we were greeted by our server along with a server-in-training, and then we ordered our food.

I couldn't decide on what to eat, so I ordered the Awesome Appetizer Adventure, which I intended to share with DH.

The appetizers were Chimi-Cha-Chas, Spinach & Artichoke Dip with tri-colored tortilla chips, Cheese Sticks, and Chicken Tenders. Served with fresh guacamole, marinara and coconut curry sauce.

My favorite item was the Chimi Cha-Chas.  The Spinach & Artichoke Dip and Cheese Sticks were good too.  I didn't really care for the Chicken Tenders, and the coconut curry sauce was not to my liking as well.  It was too sweet for me.

This was a LOT of food and I ended up taking 3/4 of it back to the hotel.

DH had the Seared Ahi Salad.

It was huge!  He really enjoyed it.

DS1 had the Kids Macaroni & Cheese.

DS2 had the Fried Chicken Fingers with Fries.

And we decided to indulge and get the Sparkling Volcano.
YUM!

While we waited for our food we took the boys to view all of the animal displays.  Every so often there would be "thunder" and "rain" throughout the restaurant, which scared DS2, but overall it's a pretty neat experience for the kiddos!

The server and trainee were both very friendly, but the service was pretty slow. It took a LONG time for our servers to take our dessert order, and an even longer time to get take-out boxes for our leftovers.

Despite that, we enjoyed our dinner at Rainforest Cafe.  They offer a good selection of food, give big portions, and it's a really fun atmosphere for kids.
