For those of you who are not familiar with Tweetups, it's a gathering of people who tweet on Twitter, giving them a chance to meet face to face, or as they say in Twitterville, "IRL" (in real life).
Most tweetups are organized and announced on the website Twtvite.com. There is a section specifically devoted to Honolulu, HI. Some tweetups are purely social, but businesses are using this social platform more and more as a business tool for marketing, advertising, etc.
Zippy's held two tweetups this past week, as a way of bringing together Zippy's fans who tweet on twitter, and to get some feedback on some of their new menu items.
First up were the new style of fries that Zippy's will be serving. They are thicker than the previous fries that they were using, and these have the skin-on on the ends. I personally prefer skinnier fries, but the hubby liked these a lot.
Zippy's will start serving a chicken and waffles plate starting June 4. It will only be available in the dining rooms, for just a little over $8. I can't wait for this menu item to come out. The combination of sweet and salty just puts me in a very happy mood.
We next sampled Zippy's hamburger steak that is made with grass-fed beef from the neighbor island. As a proud supporter of the local community, Zippy's now uses grass-fed beef from Hawaii. Not only are they "keeping it local", but grass-fed beef is arguably healthier for you and the eco-system.
Albert & Allen of Young's Market Hawaii, a liquor wholesaler, was on hand to talk about the two wines featured in today's tweetup.
At the end of the tweetup, prizes were awarded to people who tweeted the best photos of the food, and there was a raffle drawing. I was one of the lucky winners who won for best photo of the hamburger steak.
I would like to thank Zippy's for hosting the tweetup. I'm looking forward to the next one!
