Drive-In Theater Nostalgia

In 1998, the last drive-in theater in Hawaii, Kam Drive-In, shut down due to a lack of business.  I know a lot of people, myself included, were pretty bummed about that.

Where else could we go to watch a movie for cheap, while sitting in our car or outside on some chairs or a blanket, and take our own food?

I never thought I'd watch a movie at a drive-in theater again (at least not in Hawaii).

Fast-forward 15 years later - I found myself at Kam Drive-In watching movies with my family!

After seeing a flier for a "Flashback Friday" movie night fundraiser to take place at Kam Drive-In, my husband and I knew we had to take the kids to experience a drive-in movie.

It wasn't quite the same as the good 'ol days, but it was still a lot of fun.

FunFlicks Hawaii was the company responsible for setting up a 40-foot Inflatable movie screen, along with all of the audio and visual equipment, in order to show Monsters, Inc. and Pitch Perfect.

The screen was a lot smaller than I expected, but we had a front row parking space, so we had a good view.

However, even from the back the screen was still quite visible.
Our kids got to experience a drive-in movie for the first time, and it was neat to see all the other families with their blankets, pillows, loads of snacks, and canopies enjoying the movies.

I hope there are more Kam Drive-In movie nights.  It was a lot of fun for our family, and it sure brought back a lot of memories...

Do you have drive-in theaters where you live?
