Island Air Review

Although Island Air has been operating in the islands for many years, it wasn't until last weekend that I had the opportunity to fly on them.

I, along with my family, traveled on Island Air from Honolulu (HNL) to Lanai (LNY) and back, and just about the entire trip went smoothly.

Upon arrival at the check-in counter in Honolulu to check my luggage (those who check-in online with no luggage to check can simply go straight to the security checkpoint), I was warmly greeted, and the agent was very efficient and friendly.
Once past security and in the holding area, we waited for our flight, and I thought it was very nice that an agent walked around offering juice to the passengers.

Although the inbound flight was late, arriving after we were supposed to start boarding, the agents did a fantastic job on the turnaround to make sure the flight departed as soon as possible, as safely as possible (and we still arrived in Lanai on time).

Onboard the 64-seat ATR 72-aircraft, the flight attendants were very friendly and conversed with all members of my family, and even recommended places to eat in Lanai!

Passengers were offered complimentary mini bottles of water and cuplets of juice (I love that the flight attendant would poke a stir stick through the lid of the juice cuplet to act as a straw - great for the kids!), and when my kids didn't finish their juice before the flight attendant came around to collect all remaining trash items (the flight is a VERY QUICK 25 minutes), she offered to give them more after we landed.

Passengers are not allowed to use smart phones on Island Air aircraft (even in airplane mode), but the flight was so quick and before I knew it, the plane already started its descent.

The return trip from LNY was almost identical - friendly agents and flight attendants, prompt service, and we arrived in Honolulu on time.  The only difference on this trip was that passengers had a surprisingly long wait for their luggage.

Despite that, I was impressed with the overall service by the Island Air employees.

The Aloha spirit was evident on this trip, and I look forward to flying on Island Air again.

Thank you to Island Air for offering a media rate for my round-trip travel to Lanai and waving my baggage fees.  Airfare for my husband and kids were paid on my own.
