Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return Review

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return is an animated musical and a continuation of The Wizard of Oz.  In Legends of Oz, Dorothy (Lea Michele) awakes to a post-tornado Kansas, only to have to return back to Oz to save her old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and Glinda (Bernadette Peters) from a new villain - the wicked witch's brother- the Jester (Martin Short).  She meets new friends along the way: Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty) and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart).

My kids love going to the movies and I love watching them being entertained. They laugh out loud. They gasp.  They are silenced when something sad happens.  They experienced all this and more while watching Legends of Oz.

While I had hoped for a more exciting story line and catchier songs (after all my my favorite Glee actor was singing), my kids loved every minute.  Initially I was worried that it might be a little scary for them as it was rated PG, but both my 7 year old and 3 year old assured me there were no scary parts.

I thought the movie was just okay and have no plans on buying the DVD when it comes out.  My kids enjoyed themselves, but they didn't show the same excitement as they did after seeing Frozen or Despicable Me.

The film is rated PG and is 1hr and 28 minutes.
