One of the hottest places on the Honolulu brunch scene is Koko Head Cafe. It opened in early 2014 and only recently did I get the chance check it out. Because of its popularity, there is almost always a line of hungry customers waiting outside for a table, however, on this particular visit, we walked right in and got seated by Chef Lee Ann Wong herself. What? Yes! I give a lot of props to chefs that not only actually work in the kitchen, but also help out on the floor when needed. After taking our seat, I just knew this was going to be a 5 star dining experience. And it was.
The food is amazing. The Cornflake French Toast is like no other french toast. According to our server, they use Punaluu sweet bread, dip it in custard, roll it in cornflakes and flash fry it. It's topped with cornflake gelato made by Via Gelato and bacon. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Another must-try is the dumplings of the day. After all, she wrote an entire cookbook on it!
Our 2 entrees and shared appetizer came out to $40 (without beverages). A little pricey for breakfast but it was well worth the splurge.
