Ka'iulani Spices Review

Disclosure: Complimentary sample was provided for review purposes.

As a mother of two twin toddler boys who works 40 hours a week, I'm always looking for meals that are easy to prep and require 5 or less ingredients.  Spices are the key to this type of easy cooking, so when I was given the opportunity to try out Ka'iulani Spices, I jumped on it.  I've seen Ka'iulani (the owner) at the KCC Farmers Market and also at the military exchanges, where she would always be demonstrating how to make her famous "Exotic Curry Fried Rice with Cranberries" utilizing her Exotic Curry spice.  But little did I know that she has many other spices that are very versatile and making cooking a cinch!

Ka'iulani Spices are made in Hawaii and are organic, gluten-free, vegan, and contain no preservatives or MSG.  There are 7 different spices: Lani's Herb Garden, Pele's Fire, Exotic Curry, Chinese 5-Spice, Alaea Sea Salt, Hawaiian Spice, and Kona Coffee.  They can be used on poultry, pork, beef, fish, and shrimp.  Simply sprinkle 1 1/2 tbs per lb, rub in with olive oil, and grill, BBQ, fry, bake, or saute your food.  It's that easy. No wonder their motto is "FLAVOR WITHOUT THE LABOR".

I had a package of 4 bone-in chicken thighs, so I decided to try and use a different spice on each chicken thigh: Chinese 5 Spice, Lani's Herb Garden, Alaea Sea Salt, and Hawaiian Spice.

I preheated my toaster oven to 375 degrees, and lined the baking pan with foil. I then drizzled each chicken thigh with olive oil and rubbed one spice on each thigh.  Then I baked the chicken for 50 minutes, starting with the skin down, and then flipping them over after 25 minutes.  Before I removed the chicken from the oven, I turned the heat up to broil for about 3 minutes to give the skin that extra crispy texture.

 Here's the finished product:

The chicken was delicious. The spices are very flavorful, and you will be amazed at how easy they are to use - just sprinkle it on!  You can even get creative and combine the different spices.

There are many other ways you can use Ka'iulani Spices.  Check out the website for recipes and cooking demo videos.
