Visit Phoenix: A Wonderful Winter Getaway at The Wigwam

Our family spent the holidays away for the first time, and it was the one of the best vacations ever.  A big reason why we had such a wonderful getaway was because of our stay at The Wigwam.

Located in Litchfield Park, Arizona, a city named after Paul W. Litchfield, who selected the land for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. because of the abundant cotton growth used for their tires, The Wigwam sits on 440 acres, with 331 casitas, acclaimed dining venues, meeting rooms, a spa, and so much more.

Our family arrived to The Wigwam close to midnight one chilly December night, and was warmly greeted upon check-in, and then escorted to the parking lot near our suite.

Our suite was perfect for us (you can read all about our suite here), and I couldn't wait to start exploring the resort the next day.
The Wigwam
The Wigwam originally opened as a gathering place for Goodyear executives.  It officially opened as a resort in 1924 with accommodations for 24 guests.  After going through expansions and a recent multi-million dollar renovation, The Wigwam has since grown to a world-renowned resort.

The original fireplace still exists today for guests to gather around.

Western and Native American art and artifacts also can be found throughout the lobby, as well as other really neat design elements, like the design in the doors, which was meant to look like a tire's treads.

Remaining true to its original intent as a gathering place, The Wigwam continues to encourage guests to gather together through its numerous activities and events (while we were there they had a lot of holiday activities going on), as well as through the numerous seating areas throughout the lobby and outdoor areas.

Outdoors there are areas where guests can play Bocce ball, ping pong, sand volleyball, and cornhole.

There are also 4 different pools on site.  We spent time at the Lodge Pool, which is separated into two different areas - one more for adults (although I did see a few kids in the area), and another for kids, which has two 25-foot dual waterslides and a water fountain / splash pad area.

Even though the pool was heated, it was still quite chilly, so one of my kids also spent some time in a nearby hot tub.

The Oasis Pool and the Spa Pool in the Red Door Spa are also available for guests to enjoy.

There are a variety of dining options on-site, such as Litchfield's, Wigwam Bar, and Red's Bar & Grill. There are also numerous restaurants just a short walk away, or within a short driving distance.

At the resort is also a business center, fitness center, family arcade, tennis courts, and more! Every Sunday there is also a Farmers Market!

In addition to the numerous activities available on property, guests can simply stroll the grounds to see all of the beautiful rose bushes, cacti, and citrus trees.  There's even an herb and spice garden that the chefs use!
Beautiful roses everywhere!
The Wigwam also has a handy app that I downloaded onto my iPhone.  I used the app to look up television channels (there wasn't any channel lineup card I could find in the suite), hotel services, and more.  On the televisions in our suite I could also look up resort information, events, and review my account at any time.

Service was excellent throughout our entire stay - the front desk employees are honestly some of the nicest people I have ever come in contact with!  They were always so helpful and accommodating (e.g. when the arcade closed well before closing time they tried their best to find out why).

The Wigwam is simply a beautiful resort with so much history.  The modern amenities, stunning grounds, variety of activities, dining options, and fantastic service all made for an unforgettable stay.

I don't know when we'll be going away for the holidays again, but it will be really hard to top such a wonderful winter getaway at The Wigwam!
