Recently-Opened in Kailua - Yamas Mediterranean Cuisine

While on the Windward side of Oahu, we decided to have lunch at the recently-opened Yamas Mediterranean Cuisine.

Sampler Platter

Super Gyro
Chicken Souvlaki with Garlic Fries
Keiki Chicken Bites

Blonde Brownie
Fried Pita Sundae
The Sampler Platter consisted of Hummus, Baba Ganoush, Spanakopita, Fried Zucchini, and Dolmades (Stuffed Grape Leaves). I liked the hummus and baba ganoush, but my favorite item on the platter was the fried zucchini.

I had the Chicken Souvlaki, which I thought was pretty good.  The chicken, marinated in lemon, olive oil, and fresh herbs, had a nice flavor, but the tzatziki sauce seemed a bit under seasoned.  The fries were yummy!

My husband had the Super Gyro, which consisted of 1/2 pound of gyro meat stuffed in a warm pita, and enjoyed it.

Kids meals are offered, but they are way overpriced. The meals are $7, and include a drink, but the amount of food given was so disappointing. If you see the photo above - there are just 5 tiny pieces of chicken on that plate! And we ordered 3 of those plates - 1 for each of my kids! They liked the chicken, but we won't be ordering kids meals again.

Thankfully, dessert was delicious and more reasonably-priced. Of the two desserts, my favorite was the Fried Pita Sundae. Such a simple dessert - deep-fried pita chips dusted in cinnamon and sugar and topped with ice cream, but so good!

Service was prompt and friendly, and overall the food was good, but next time I'd skip the kids meals and just share food with my kids.
