Ka Iwi Coast Run

Two things have kept me from participating in organized runs:  early start time and long distance.  But when I discovered the annual Ka Iwi Coast Run & Walk was just 4 miles long, I decided the journey along the famous Ka Iwi Coast scenic highway would be worth the lack of sleep.  The event begins at Sandy Beach with the sunrise, continues around the Ka Iwi coastline, passes Halona and Hanauma Bay and finishes at the Hui Nalu Canoe Club on the shores of Maunalua Bay.

The Ka Iwi Coast Run & Walk is the only pedestrian race sanctioned for this area of Oahu.  Proceeds benefit Hui Nalu Canoe Club programs and supports the mission of the Ka Iwi Coalition and Livable Hawaii Kai Hui in protecting the Ka Iwi Coast.

I was very excited for my first race that I had trouble sleeping the night before.  When we got to the starting point, it was already crowded with race participants and there was a buzz of excitement.  You can set your own pace so my friend and I chatted while we walked and enjoyed the incredible views.  This event is great for first timers like myself and also for children.  It's a great event the entire family can enjoy together.

The conch shell blowers to mark the start of the race.

The runners are ready!

Walkers, like me, took the time to take pictures of this beautiful scenery.

More incredible views.

Finish Line!  So happy I did this race!
