Forty Carrots Cafe in Bloomingdale's

Bloomingdale's opened it's first Forty Carrots in 1975 to offer their shoppers a menu comprised of healthy salads, sandwiches, homemade carrot and bran muffins, and their famous frozen yogurt.

When the new Ewa wing opened in the Ala Moana Shopping Center, I heard lots of great things about the famous Bloomingdale's café.  I decided to wait for the crowds to thin out before checking out the menu created by the notable Chef Jon Matsubara.

It should be noted that the casual café's policy is to seat your entire party at one time.  When I arrived on an early Monday evening, the café was practically empty so I asked them to make an exception as we only had two out of four of our party present.  They accommodated us and we were able to sit down instead of just hanging out in front of the café in the middle of the third floor home department.

Forty Carrots offers an extensive list of juices, teas, and wines as well as coffee.  I decided on a very fragrant peach black tea which perked me up from the drive in traffic.  For my appetizer, I had a cup of the ocean bouillabaisse which was delicious.  I loved the flavor of the kaffir lime in the broth and I was satisfied with the nice chunks of fish.  The lobster tartine is served open face which made it a little difficult to eat lady like, but it was worth the mess.  The salad that accompanied it had a really tasty dressing.

For dessert, I had the famous frozen yogurt.  They change their flavors often so they are not listed on the menu.  That night they were out of plain, their most popular flavor, but had many other flavors available.  I narrowed it down to coffee and cheesecake with an oreo cookie topping.  I'm not a big fan of froyo, but I really enjoyed the frozen yogurt at Forty Carrots because it was so rich and creamy.  I did a little research and discovered the frozen yogurt mixture is made unique by its abundance of active yogurt cultures.  I also love that it has approximately 25 calories per ounce.  Wait, WHAT???  I mean, I probably had about 12 ounces, but who's counting?  And let me remind you, frozen yogurt is either low fat or non-fat.  Win!

Forty Carrots is open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 8pm and on Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
Loved having my own personal tea pot.

Cup sized portion of Ocean Bouillabaisse.  Also available in a bowl size.

The Kona lobster was delicious and I loved the chunks of avocado and bacon.

Forty Carrots offers a number of different yogurt toppings.  From fresh fruit to candies!
