Almond Cookies Recipe

Almond Cookies

My kids love making almond cookies with their Grandma.  She makes the dough and the kids form the balls and dot with their favorite colors.  The texture of these cookies are so so good and your kitchen will smell amazing as well.

The recipe is from an old newspaper clipping.  Mix together 2 1/4 cups flour and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.  In another bowl, cream together 1/2 cup butter or shortening and 1/2 cup sugar.  Switching between wet and dry, add 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2-3 teaspoons almond extract, and the flour mixture to the butter and sugar.  Form the dough into balls on an ungreased cookie sheet.  Gently press into the center of the cookie and with the flat end of the chopstick add food coloring to the cookie.  Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool and enjoy!

The kids love decorating with non-traditional colors.
