Breadshop to Open at Finance Factors Kaimuki Center

Finance Factors today announced that local bread maker Christopher Sy will open Breadshop, a craft bakery at Finance Factors Kaimuki Center, located at 3402 Waialae Avenue on the corner of 8th Avenue and Waialae Avenue.

"It is my hope that Breadshop will not become a destination but an everyday occurrence; a regular joy in people's lives and a happy part of their routine," said Christopher Sy, owner of Breadshop. "While Breadshop is modeled after the classic boulangerie, or neighborhood bakery, it will, ultimately, be an exploration of baking traditions from around the world and here at home. Our offerings will change from day to day but we will strive to ensure that every item offered is both unique and the best it can be."

Breadshop's initial menu will feature the naturally leavened breads, croissants and viennoiserie (French pastries) that Sy has become known for. Over time, the bakery hopes to expand its offerings to include an eclectic mix of baked goods not readily available in Hawai'i.

"Finance Factors is pleased to welcome Christopher Sy and his craft bakery as the first of several tenants at our brand new Finance Factors Kaimuki Center," said Steven Teruya, president and chief operating officer of Finance Factors. "Breadshop will further our efforts to better serve the Kaimuki community and beyond, in addition to the introduction of a new Finance Factors branch and other improvements to the center."

Born and raised in Honolulu, Sy attended the University of Chicago, then spent the majority of his adult years cooking in top-ranked kitchens around the world. In 2012, he left restaurants behind to start Breadshop - a one-man operation dedicated to making long-fermented, hearth baked loaves, a passion he desperately wants to share with the community.

Construction on the Finance Factors Kaimuki Center, which was purchased by Finance Factors last year, started in July 2015. Sy's Breadshop, along with a new Finance Factors branch office, are slated to begin construction as early as this summer. The bakery joins a growing community of neighborhood eateries in the Kaimuki area.

The Finance Factors Kaimuki Center is being designed by Ushijima Architects, Inc. and includes refinishing of the building's exterior design to reflect the local charm of the neighborhood and to complement neighboring buildings. The company has completed similar projects in the Liliha and Mānoa neighborhoods.

Founded by several island families in 1952, Finance Factors is Hawai'i's largest locally-owned depository financial services loan company. Finance Factors currently has 13 branches in the state of Hawai'i, including branches on Maui, Kaua'i, O'ahu and Hawai'i Island and a Loan Production Office in Guam.
