New to Waikiki: Uncle Tetsu

Next time you are in Waikiki, you might want to check out Uncle Tetsu - a bakeshop known for their Japanese style cheesecake which is not heavy and dense like its American counterpart.   With more than 70 shops worldwide, their newest location is in the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center food court.

The handmade Japanese cheesecake uses butter from Japan and cream cheese from Australia and is light and fluffy.  It reminds me of a soufflĂ©.  After it has been refrigerated, it's a little bit more dense and creamy.

I think the cake is reasonably priced at $8.50.  What is unreasonable is there is a limit of one cheesecake per person.  Do you know how inconvenient it is for a Mililani resident like me to get into Waikiki and find parking and then be only able to take home ONE cheesecake?  Hopefully they'll change that policy so customers can purchase the cheesecakes as gifts or for parties.

Uncle Testu also offers the cheesecake in a coffee flavor and sells milk teas, lemonades, coffee and a couple of other baked goods.  The shop is open daily from 10am to 10pm.
