Easy Hamburger Steak Recipe

I don't eat a lot of beef, so I don't cook it at home often, but I decided to try and make a recipe that I hadn't prepared in years and years - Hamburger Steak!

It was the first time I made it for my kids.  I cheated and used a gravy mix, but if you have a favorite brown gravy recipe, go ahead and use it!

My middle son didn't care for the gravy, and my other two kids didn't care for the mushrooms and onions, but they all ate up the hamburger patties!  My husband and I liked the patties with everything on top.

It's a super quick and easy recipe that I'm sure I'll be making again soon.

Hamburger Steak

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c bread crumbs (I used panko)
  • salt and pepper to season
  • gravy - prepared according to package directions, or your own recipe
  • sauteed mushrooms and onions (optional)

Directions:
  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Form into patties.
  • Brown patties in skillet on medium high heat, about 4 to 6 minutes each side, depending on the size of the patties (I made small patties since I wasn't sure if the kids would eat them).
  • Remove from skillet, and top with gravy, and sauteed mushrooms and onions.
