One of my favorite snacks made locally on Oahu are sweet potato and taro chips from Hawaiian Chip Company. They use locally grown sweet potato and taro, canola oil (which has zero trans fats), and their chips are preservative free.
You will see them in packages at many stores island-wide (e.g. Costco, Longs, Times, Wholesale Unlimited), but did you know you can get FRESH, made-to-order sweet potato and taro chips at their store and manufacturing plant in Kalihi?
Made-to-order chips are available Monday-Saturday. Choose between taro only, sweet potato only, or a combo. Bags are $6 or you can get a box for $15 (best value).
Seasonings? Yes! Once your chips are ready, head over to the seasoning bar and season away. There are 10 different seasonings to choose from, and you can add as much or little as you like, and can combine flavors to your liking.

In addition to buying chips made-to-order, you can also buy their chips seasoned and pre-packaged (great for omiyage).
Hawaiian Chip Company is also known for their BBQ sauces that are great for marinating chicken, pork, beef, and fish. If you're not sure which one to buy, sample them first....
reusable bags, and even chip clips with their logo on it.
If you need something to cool you down, try one of their ice cream sandwiches for only $5.
Don't forget to ask for a stamp card. Fill it up and enjoy $5 off on your next visit.
