Irons Table & Tavern

At my former job, my co-workers and I would frequent Sam Snead's at the Navy Marine Golf Course for lunch or dinner.  A few years ago our family went to Seven Palms Bar and Grille, which took over the space of Sam Snead's, and we enjoyed the food despite the slow service.

Earlier this year I found out from a friend of mine that a new restaurant took over Seven Palms - Irons Table & Tavern. She had gone when it had first opened up, and did not have great things to say about her experience, so I decided to wait a while before trying it out.

On Saturday I met some of my friends there for dinner (need not be military - civilians welcomed).

I had made reservations via OpenTable, and when we arrived, there was a graduation party in the main dining room.  We had the option to sit outside, but we wanted to sit inside, so we were directed to the Tavern.

Classic Caesar

Steamed Clams

Tavern Fish + Chips

Kalua Pork Quesadilla

Tempura Mushrooms
We dined during Social Hour (3-6pm daily), so we ordered the Tempura Mushrooms, Kalua Pork Quesadilla, and Steamed Clams from the Social Hour menu, along with the Classic Caesar and Fish + Chips from the regular dinner menu.

When the food arrived, we were all ready to dive into our dishes.  They all looked wonderful, but unfortunately, the consensus was that most of the dishes fell short on flavor.

I thought the pork in the quesadilla was too tough and under-seasoned.  The mushrooms were pretty good, but again - under-seasoned.

A friend was a little thrown off by the big piece of anchovy in her salad, and she thought the dressing lacked flavor.

She did, however, enjoy the sauce that accompanied the clams.

We were hopeful for a better outcome with dessert!

Blooming Apple
Creme Brulee
My friend and I both ordered the Blooming Apple. It was good - the apple was soft and paired nicely with the vanilla bean ice cream, but we both agreed that it would've been much better with more of the crumble-like topping for a crunchier contrast.

Another friend ordered the Creme Brulee, and she loved it.

Although we were a bit disappointed by the food, there were some highlights (the Creme Brulee and clam sauce, in particular), and we appreciated the Social Hour menu.

We also had excellent service the entire night, even though there was a huge graduation party going on in the main dining room.
