Breakout Waikiki: Are You Up for the Challenge?

I had crinkled my nose every time someone suggested trying out an escape room.  Stuck in a room and solving puzzles to get out?  I don't know about you, but I like to give my brain a rest when I'm not working.  It's really fun?  I don't believe you.  But, I am no party pooper and I'll try most things once.

Breakout Waikiki is Hawaii's first live action escape game.  The goal is to breakout from one of their 4 escape rooms within 60 minutes.  Each room has a minimum of 2-4 players and a maximum of 8.

Our group had 9 so we had to book two rooms.  Booking on line was simple and I called to get the promo code for kamaaina.  It was also easy to add more people to the room once we got there.

Parking is available at Kings Village Garage, but note the lot closes at midnight.  We parked at the zoo and walked.  The person who checked us in and Emily, who ran our room, were both awesome and super friendly.

My group broke out of Room 13, the easiest room of the 4 with a 27% success rate, but it was still very challenging.  You are given three clues if you need them and I would suggest not holding on to them until the end.  You won't be able to randomly break out as you will need to crack all the codes and follow through all the steps.  It's strangely satisfying when you unlock a lock and discover how everything is connected.

Now, I can see why everyone loves it so much.  It's not like anything else and I loved the camaraderie you develop!  Our group worked really well together as we have been friends for so long and have no problems communicating, but this activity would be perfect for team building as it fosters good communication.
