Stripsteak Waikiki

I don't normally like to go to restaurants soon after they open, but because we were staycationing right next door, our family went to the International Market Place to dine at Stripsteak, a Michael Mina Restaurant, for lunch, which opened just a few weeks ago.

The restaurant opens at 11:30am, but the hostess allowed guests to put their names down just prior to opening, which was a good thing, because there were lots and lots of people lining up to dine.

We were one of the first few tables seated, and our entire family was ready to eat!

"Tokyo" Tots
The Tokyo Tots were not brought out with the rest of the food so we had to ask our server to check on it.  It was worth the wait - it was so good!

The tots were crispy, and topped with bonito, green onions, seaweed, and a yuzu aioli that gave a bit of a spicy kick.

I had the Fish Tacos for my entree.  Perfectly cooked pieces of mahi mahi, along with tomato salsa and a chipotle aioli were stuffed in crispy Sinaloa shells, which were enveloped in soft shells.  The contrasting textures and flavors were simply delicious!

My husband enjoyed the burger, which was topped with Maui carmalized onions, Nueske's bacon, and accompanied by seasoned fries.

Stripsteak is very family-friendly, offering plastic kids cups along with kid-friendly fare on the keiki menu.  One of my kids ordered the Surf N' Turf, which consisted of Tempura Shrimp and Soy-Glazed Chicken Skewers.

There are only three options on the dessert menu for lunch - malasadas, a parfait, and the "Dole Whip" Float.

It was such a hot and humid day that I didn't hesitate to order the float, which consisted of housemade pineapple juice, pineapple sorbet, and yoghurt sherbert. It was very refreshing. Accompanying the float were three yuzu macaroons.

"Dole Whip" Float
Although the food was excellent, there is still much to be worked on service-wise, in my opinion.

Immediately upon being seated, one of the employees brought us some cool oshibori and asked us what we wanted to drink (waters for all of us).  A few minutes passed and the employee brought out our waters. I told him we were ready to order, and he pointed to another gentleman, stating that he was our server and apologized for how long it was taking him to greet us.

After 10 minutes, our server finally greeted us, and we told him we were ready to order.  The food came out 30 minutes later, and during those 30 minutes not once did someone come to refill our empty water glasses or check on us.

Our server, however, was very friendly and knowledgable, and fortunately, dessert came out very quickly (just 3 minutes!).

Yes, the restaurant just opened, so I didn't expect things to go perfectly, but I did expect much better service.

I'm sure things will only improve!
