Red Barn Farmstand |
For many, many months, whenever our family would drive through Haleiwa, we'd pass a red structure at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Cane Haul Road. There was no sign or any other indication of what this structure was.
Until now.
Red Barn Farmstand is a collaboration between Holoholo General Store's Jill Nordby, Jamie Sexton, and Emily and Elisabeth Beagle, and Twin Bridge Farms' Milton Agader and Al Medrano. I was fortunate to have been invited to a media event to find out what Red Barn Farmstand is all about.
The charming farmstand, with colorful picnic tables and a blue mobile processing unit kitchen trailer just outside, offers a community space where visitors and locals alike can pick up fresh veggies, eat a hearty meal, grab bites for the beach, or even play a game of cornhole!

Step inside Red Barn Farmstand, and you'll be greeted by a team eager to share the bounty of local farmers and makers, and I had a chance to sample a few of the items offered on the menu:
|
Cold-Brewed Tropical Iced Tea, Moroccan Quinoa and Roasted Carrot Salad |
|
Mediterranean Picnic Pack (Beet Hummus, Tzatziki, Tabbouleh, Pita) |
|
Sunrise Sausage Burrito |
|
Chicken Souvlaki Wrap |
|
Granola Parfait |
|
Greens with housemade Mission Fig Balsamic Vinaigrette |
|
Brownies with Pecans, Lime-Glazed Cornmeal Cookies |
The food is amazing! Fresh, local ingredients are incorporated into each dish whenever possible.
My favorite was the Sunrise Sausage Burrito. Packed with Portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs, fried rice, mango salsa, and cheddar cheese, the burrito was so filling and just so delicious!
The Picnic Packs are perfect for a day at the beach (isn't the beet hummus just so pretty?), and the Granola Parfait, made with housemade granola, Greek yogurt, berries, fruit, and local honey, was yummy!
After filling up on delicious eats, we took a tour of Holoholo Farm, which is just a short drive away.
The organic farm is run by twin-sister farmers Emily and Elisabeth, who shared their love and enthuisasm not only for farming, but also for educating the community (visit the Holoholo Farms
website for information on tours and volunteering). It was really neat to see for myself the fruits of their labor, and I even got to pick some eggplant!

I picked these! |
The Red Barn Farmstand team's passion to provide the community access to the bounty of the local farmers, as well as to provide a space for visitors and locals to gather, connect, and learn (they will soon be holding workshops, cooking classes, farm tours, and more), is so obvious, as well as very inspirational.
I can't wait to return with my entire family!
