Visit San Francisco: Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

Less than an hour away from San Francisco (90 minutes if you avoid tolls) is Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.  This unique attraction is an amusement park plus zoo plus animal theme park, featuring thrill rides, animal exhibits, and entertaining shows.

Parking is $25, and they also sell preferred parking for a bit more, but if you arrive early enough, you can easily find a stall in a row right above the Preferred Parking rows.

A tram is available to shuttle visitors to and from the park, but there are many who choose to walk instead (we used the tram).

Upon arrival at the entrance, bags are checked, and visitors are allowed to explore the park 30 minutes before the official opening time.

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom was decked out in Halloween decor for Fright Fest.  There were some pretty gruesome exhibits, but for the most part none of the exhibits really terrified my kids.  For those wishing to torture themselves with all of the horrors of Fright Fest, an additional fee is charged for the nighttime Fright Fest activities.

There is a nice variety of rides at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - those for the thrill-seeker, as well as family-friendly rides.

Because my kids are not too fond of the extreme rides, we stuck to the tamer rides - ones that don't flip you upside down.

Cobra
My kids' favorite ride was the White Water Safari.  We rode that multiple times, getting soaking wet each time!

My kids loved the Looney Tunes Seaport and the many kiddie rides.

Yosemite's Sam Flight School
Foghorn's Seaport Railway
In addition to the rides, there are so many engaging animal experiences at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

There are Animal Encounters through which visitors can walk amongst fluttering butterflies, ride an elephant (additional fee), and touch a stingray!

There are also numerous animal attractions, where you can gaze at powerful lions, enormous walruses, adorable penguins, and a majestic eagle.

Several shows featuring dolphins, tigers, and more are put on several times a day.

At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom you'll also find games, play areas, shops and of course - lots of yummy things to eat!

There were a few kid-friendly Halloween activities, such as a maze through which kids can get candy, an activity table, and even cute photo ops.

Say Fright Fest!
Our plan was to leave by 6pm before the Fright Fest Awakening - when zombies came out for the evening, but it started to rain - and then it started to pour!  It was the worst storm I've ever experienced while being outdoors!  So instead of zombies chasing us away, the torrential rains did.

Despite the rain towards the end of our visit, we still had a super fun visit at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Getting soaked, but still smiling!
We enjoyed seeing so many magnificent animals and riding on so many exciting rides. There's something for all ages at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.

Fright Fest continues this Friday through Sunday!
