Japanese Restaurant Hakkei

Before I go any further, I should first inform you that Japanese Restaurant Hakkei is closing its doors in Hawaii for good on December 25, 2016.

All of my friends who have had the pleasure of visiting Japan say that this is the place to go for authentic Japanese cuisine without leaving this island.  Since I've never been to Japan, I had to see what it's like to eat authentic Japanese food since it'll be a while before I ever visit Japan.

I really wanted to try their infamous arare chicken, but upon my arrival, I discovered that they do not offer it on the lunch menu, so I opted for the fried aji-mackerel set.

Everything was nicely plated, in true Japanese fashion.

The fish was flavorful and moist.

The multi-grain rice is a nice alternative to the usual white rice.

My only regret was not adding on a small portion of hamachi like how Brandon did.

In the evenings they have oden and kaiseki meals, which I hear is what you really need to come here for.

For reservations, call (808) 944-6688 or go to OpenTable.com.
