Before kids, my husband and I would go to the movies a lot. Whenever awards season rolled around, we'd make sure to watch all of the Oscar Best Picture nominees, which meant going to different theaters around the island, and sometimes in other states (we worked for the airlines back then), since theaters on Oahu would no longer be showing a particular movie.
These days, movie fans can attend a marathon viewing of all the Best Picture nominees at select theaters, and there are marathons for Oscar Nominated Shorts as well!
For over a decade, ShortsHD has been presenting Oscar Nominated Short Films to screens worldwide.
I think this is fantastic, because having access to these shorts is quite difficult. Of all of the nominated short films, the only one I've seen is the animated short, Piper, and I haven't even heard of the others.
But thanks to ShortsHD, you can see every single one of the short films in the Live Action, Animation, and Documentary categories.
I was fortunate to screen every single nominated short, and I really enjoyed most of them, particularly the Documentaries. The shorts were gut-wrenching and heart-breaking, as well as inspiring, and I literally cried watching every single one.
The Academy Awards will be televised on February 26, but you can watch the Oscar Nominated Shorts in theaters beginning February 8, and On Demand beginning February 21.
Locally, all categories of shorts will be playing at Doris Duke Theatre, with Live Action and Animation playing at Dole Cannery 18.
