Poke & Box

Poke bowls have always been a popular item in Hawaii (even before it started trending on the mainland). But businesses have gotten creative with the concept and poke bowls now take on a whole new meaning.  Instead of just rice and poke, you can get poke bowls with all sorts of enticing add-ons, toppings, sides, etc. to spruce up the taste and appeal.

At Poke and Box, you get to create your own gourmet "hand-mixed" poke box from start to finish, and you get to see it made right before your eyes.

Here's how you order:

1) Select your size  - small, medium or large. The larger the size, the more protein and topping selections you get.

2) Choose your POKEBOXBASE™

  • Rice or salad
  • Avocado
  • Crab Meat
  • Cucumbers
  • Raw Onions
  • Green Onions

You can have all six if you want.  My recommendation - take all 6!

3) Choose your POKEBOXMIX™
  • Fresh Ahi
  • Salmon
  • Tako
  • Hokkaido Scallops
  • Cooked Shrimp
  • Tofu
  • Chicken

Since I ordered a small box, I was only allowed to choose one.  I chose my favorite - salmon.

3) Choose your POKEBOXSAUCE™

  • Shoyu
  • Aja spicy shoyu
  • Go Chu Jang
  • Creamy Sesame
  • Wasabi Mustard
  • Mild Spicy
  • Hot Spicy
  • Very Spicy

I'm not into creamy sauces or hot sauces, I went with shoyu.

After the sauce is added, watch them hand-mix your poke right before your eyes!

4) Choose your POKEBOXTOPS™
  • Nori Seaweed
  • Dried Onion
  • Furikake
  • Tempura Flakes
I was only allowed to choose one, so I chose the tempura flakes.

    • Green Onion
    • Corn § JalapeƱo
    • Pineapple
    • Purple Cabbage
    • Daegu
    • Pickled Ginger
    • Kim Chee
    • Daikon
    • Choy Sum
    • Sesame
    • Taro Chips
    • Ocean Salad
    • Masago
    • Edamame
    • Pine Nuts
    • Sliced Almond
Again, I was only allowed one choice, so I chose the edamame.

And here's my small Poke Box:

      $8.37 after tax

@WeHeartHawaii ordered the small Poke Box with salad, mild spicy ahi, nori seaweed and radish sprouts.

I really liked my Poke Box. The fish tasted fresh and I liked the base and toppings offered.  The portion is pretty small though, so I would recommend getting the medium, especially since you get more choices with the larger boxes.

@WeHeartHawaii would have liked his more if he had known that the mild spicy sauce was cream-based. Had he known that, he would have opted for a different sauce and probably would have enjoyed his box more.
