Now Open: Mitsuwa Marketplace

Mitsuwa Marketplace, the largest Japanese supermarket chain in the U.S. now has a location in Hawaii at the International Market Place in Waikiki.  Here you will find Japanese and local retail products, groceries, general items, small appliances, cosmetics, and prepared foods and beverages.

@WeHeartHawaii and I were in the area for a mid-day lunch and decided to stop by to see what the hype and excitement was all about (did you see the long line to get in on opening day??).

Here's a glimpse of what's inside Mitsuwa Marketplace:

Bentos and sushi galore....

Build your own miso soup?!

Japanese snacks

Breads and pastries

Rice, of course

Sweets...

Groceries

Fresh veggies

Every Japanese tea imaginable

Musubi Cafe Iyasume (specializing in musubis)

In the back you'll find Hokkaido Ebisuya and Hokkaido Ramen Santouka...

We decided to get dessert from Matcha Love. They specialize in soft serve and bubble tea.

They happily gave me a sample of the black sesame and matcha

I ended up ordering a small matcha cone with sprinkles (toppings are free for a limited time). It was creamy and refreshing!

Local-inspired items....

and Japanese items (Brandon said these were all over the airports in Japan)

Rice Cookers

Don't forget to ask for the Kamaaina discount (need to show local ID). I believe it's 5%, which is better than nothing!
