The Perfect Weekend in Waikiki at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort

In 2014 I had the honor of experiencing The Perfect Day: Waikiki at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort.

Last month, I was fortunate to return to this iconic resort, which celebrated its 90th anniversary this year, for a perfect weekend.

Just what makes a weekend perfect?

For me, a perfect weekend includes quality time with family and friends, great food and drink, and rest and relaxation.

And if all of that takes place in one of the most luxurious resorts in the world - even better!

Upon arrival at the 528-room resort, we pulled up to the port cochere, where our family was greeted with lei.

After a quick and pleasant check-in, we went up to our suite in the Historic Building.  Upon opening the hand-carved wooden door to our suite, the French doors leading to the lanai immediately drew me in, or more accurately - out!

The view was just incredible.  The pink facade against the vibrant blues of the ocean and sky, with the green trees swaying in the wind - just breathtaking!

Breathtaking blues!
The views were stunning from morning through the night.

Perfect beach weather!

It's not surprising that with such amazing views, we spent a lot of time on the expansive lanai!

Of course, the suite itself was just beautiful as well.  Elegant and chic with vintage touches, the suite was very spacious, complete with two double beds, a sofa (it was not a sofabed, but still wide enough for one of my kids to use as a bed), a writing desk, a flat screen TV, and a table with chairs.

The bathroom was a decent size, with a stone floor and shower, as well as Malie Organics bath amenities, a hair dryer, and even a scale!

Our suite was adjacent to the Kamehameha suite, which is sometimes used for lavish dinners and small parties.  This means that it's possible to hear lots of noise, especially at night (as was the case one night during our stay), but just pop in some earplugs and drift to sleep on the dreamy bed.

Each morning, we started the day with a bounty of fresh, locally-inspired eats at the Surf Lanai. which transforms into the award-winning Azure Restaurant, specializing in culinary creations featuring fresh, local seafood.  Other on-property dining options include the Mai Tai Bar, where I had cocktails in a cabana with a friend, and the Royal Hawaiian Bakery, which is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth!

In addition to great dining options, The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort also has several shops, as well as a spa.  There are also plenty of activities guests can participate in. From lei-making to luaus, guests can immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture in a variety of ways.  And if you're visiting at certain times of the year, special brunches or activities may be held (as occurred during our stay for Easter).

We did not have time to participate in any cultural activities, however, because my kids were having too much fun at the pool!

The Royal Hawaiian has two pools to choose from - the Malulani Pool, and the Helumoa Playground, which is shared with the Sheraton Waikiki.
Malulani Pool
This family-friendly Helumoa Playground has two fresh water swimming pools, including a 70-foot long water slide, a mini slide, two whirlpools, and a fountain area.                            .
Helumoa Playground
We spent an entire day at the Helumoa Playground, where I lounged in a Mini Cabana serviced by Waikiki Beach Services.

If you'd rather lounge on the beach, it's literally just steps away!

Before the beach crowd - the chairs quickly get reserved
Guests will relax under pink parasols that dot the sand, while others will splash and play in the blue waters of the Pacific.

We sure packed a lot into our weekend!  You really don't need to leave the property during your stay, as there are so many things to do to keep you busy, but there is nothing wrong with being unbusy either - I would have been content lounging on our lanai all day long while indulging in room service!

We had such a fabulous staycation at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, which seamlessly intertwines modern and classical elements to create an experience that is luxurious, yet respectful to the resort's storied past.

The resort is just gorgeous, and knowing that the area was where Hawaii's royalty once frequented makes a stay even that much more special.
