The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum offers visitors an opportunity to learn about various facets of history and technology through its numerous interactive displays and intriguing exhibits.
The museum is housed on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. Over 50,000 menu served onboard this historic ship over its years in service during World War II. The ship now sits moored on the Hudson River, welcoming visitors to learn not only about its history, but also to view a variety of aircraft, get a closer look at the space shuttle Enterprise, and so much more.
We really enjoyed looking at all of the aircraft on the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum's Flight Deck. This extensive collection of aircraft includes all five of the US Armed Forces, as well as international aircraft, the British Aerospace/Aerospatiale Concorde, and the space shuttle Enterprise. The kids loved seeing all of the different types of aircraft and their varied designs.
I personally thought it was really cool to see all of the sleek aircraft on the top deck of the ship against the backdrop of the towering buildings of New York.
My oldest son really liked the Landing Challenge in the space shuttle Enterprise exhibition area, where he tried his hand at landing the space shuttle.
Visitors could also access the Gallery Deck to see the USS Intrepid's crews' tiny quarters, as well as some of the equipment they used onboard.
The Hangar Deck is where many interactive exhibits were on display. There were numerous props where kids could take photos, get hands-on with various types of aircraft, and even participate in simulated experiences (for a fee).
The Third Deck showcased where crew members cooked and dined, and a cafe is located on this level as well.
A new exhibition, Drones, gave visitors a look at the history of drones, and how the technology has evolved over the years.
Visitors could also tour the Submarine Growler.
Just visiting the enormous USS Intrepid aircraft carrier was a treat in itself, especially considering its storied past.
The combination of unique and historical artifacts with innovative and hands-on displays makes a visit to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum both educational and entertaining.
