Visit Vermont: Ben & Jerry's Factory Tour

It's no secret that I love ice cream, so while planning our visit to Vermont, I knew we just had to go on the Ben & Jerry's Factory Tour.

We made the 3-hour drive from New Hampshire on a rainy day, and signed up for the first available tour (tours are first-come, first served, and limited to 40 people per tour).

The tour is 30 minutes long, and there are essentially three parts - a film, a peek at the production room, and the samples!
Our guide led us to the Cow Over the Moon Theater, where we watched an interesting film about the history of Ben & Jerry's and their humble beginnings.

Next we went to a glassed-in mezzanine to view the production room, where no photos are allowed.

We saw the equipment used to make the world-famous ice cream, but no ice cream was being produced as the equipment was being cleaned.  We watched a video that demonstrated the ice cream-making process, and the different parts of the plant used in the process were pointed out by our guide.

Finally, we went into the Flavo-Room, where we got to try samples of ice cream!

Broccoli and Cheddar was the sample of the day...kidding!

We had generous samples of Milk & Cookies Ice Cream.

The ice cream sure was delicious - creamy, with huge chunks of cookies.

There were lots of leftovers, so some people got two servings!

There are several fun displays throughout the tour - new flavors, popular flavors, even the top 10 (at the time we visited, Half Baked was the #1 flavor).

There is a gift shop, as well as an ice cream shop on site so you can get a cup or cone of your favorite flavor, and there are also lots of photo ops outside as well.

There is a Flavor Graveyard that is a bit of a walk away, but because it was raining, we didn't take the time to see it.

We enjoyed the tour and loved the samples.

I'm glad I got to see one of the factories that makes Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream!

And in case you were wondering, my favorite Ben & Jerry's flavor is Chocolate Therapy!
