Our First International Flight on Hawaiian Airlines

Our family travels on Hawaiian Airlines frequently, and for the first time, we traveled on the airline for an international flight.

We jumped on a great deal to Haneda, and anxiously awaited our departure date, as this was the first time our kids would be on a flight longer than 7 hours.

We arrived at the airport about 3.5 hours prior to departure time, since I had seen photos of how long the line for the International check-in counter could be (although we checked-in online the day before, there is no international bag drop).

Fortunately we did arrive early, as the line was already about 30 people deep, and there were only two counter agents.

After getting our bags tagged (first two bags on international flights are free), we were eager for our flight to Tokyo.

Onboard all passengers received an amenity kit with earplugs, ear buds (in-flight entertainment is complimentary on most international flights), and an eye mask.

The complimentary snack and beverage service was followed by a complimentary meal service.

We were served teriyaki chicken with rice and veggies, a long rice salad, and a coconut macaroon cookie.  The chicken was pretty tasty!

About 1.5 hours prior to landing, we were served a snack of 1/2 an egg salad sandwich + 1/2 a ham sandwich, along with a chocolate covered macadamia nut.  This was my favorite of the meals served on our flights - I like simple, yet satisfying meals!
I didn't get much sleep on the flight (I rarely do), but the flight seemed to go by quickly.  In-flight service was great, and we arrived about 30 minutes early.

Our return flight was at 11:55pm.  We received an amenity kit, and we had a snack for the first food service - musubi, ham & potato salad, egg roll, and pickled veggies.  I didn't eat any of it since it was so late at night, and all I wanted to do was sleep.

For breakfast we had a teriyaki pork patty "Loco Moco," fruits, and a chocolate covered macadamia nut.  This meal was pretty good as well.

Tail winds got us in 1.5 hours ahead of schedule, but it seemed like the walk to Customs & Immigration took 1.5 hours long (it's such a far walk!).

But in all seriousness - we had another great flight on Hawaiian Airlines, and the kids did well on such a long flight (thank goodness for iPhones!)!

The great service and the complimentary meals are just a few of the reasons why we keep booking on Hawaiian Airlines!
