Nadia loves donuts, so I made sure to include a donut stop on our Hilo Day Trip, and Hilo Bake Company was our first stop!
Ironically, I'm the only one who bought something, and I'm not even a donut or pastry fan!
Owner Coen Murashige did a quick run down of the best-sellers at Hilo Bake Company. Unfortunately, the top-seller, the maple-bacon donut, was all sold out for the day, and I'm not a fan of green tea, so I didn't order the Green Tea Matcha Cake, so I opted for another popular item - the Cream Cheese Kolache.
Nadia and I split the treat, which was light and fluffy and filled with a delicious cream cheese center.
Hilo Bake Company offers all sorts of other sweets, including turnovers, cakes, cinnamon snails, manju, and more. They offer savory delights as well!
And it was really nice to start off our day trip at Hilo Bake Company not only because the Kolache was yummy, but because this family-run business really showed us the aloha.
Coen's dad was quick to give us his picks on restaurants to try, and his mom was very concerned about the fact that Nadia and I were planning to go hiking off of Saddle Road on that very cold and rainy day!
What a great way to start our Hilo Day Trip!
