During a trip to Kauai a couple of years ago, I went to the Koloa Rum Company Tasting, and it was definitely a highlight of our trip (did I ever mention how much I love Rum?).
The award-winning Koloa Rum is distilled in a vintage copper-pot, utilizing local ingredients such as Hawaiian cane sugar and mountain rainwater.
Koloa Rum recently released its first-ever Kauai Reserve Three-Year Aged Hawaiian Rum. A relationship with Heaven Hills Distillery in Kentucky has resulted in the use of a dozen select white oak bourbon barrels to age the rum, resulting in a smooth, golden rum with notes of whiskey.
I was fortunate to have been invited to a media event showcasing the Kauai Reserve Three-Year Aged Hawaiian Rum at Hula Grill Waikiki.

Guests were treated to a special Hana Hou cocktail featuring the Kauai Reserve Three-Year Aged Hawaiian Rum.
Through the end of May, guests who dine at Hula Grill Waikiki can enjoy two Koloa Rum Cocktails:
Kauai Das Why - Koloa White Rum, Fresh Squeezed Lemonade, Guava Juice, Muddled Strawberries, Splash Soda and Sprite |
Surfers Paradise - Koloa White Rum, Blue Curacao, Passion Juice, Splash Soda and Sprite |
During the dinner, we were treated to some delicious dishes, two of which incorporated rum!
Kabayaki Ribs |
Salt and Pepper Kauai Shrimp |
Roasted Kabocha Hummus |
Crispy Thai Snapper |
Koloa Aged Rum Braised Mussels |
Snake River Farms Kobe Ribeye |
Lilikoi Rum "Pie" |
The Kabayaki Ribs (my favorite!) and Roasted Kabocha Hummus (addicting) are regulars on the Hula Grill Waikiki menu.
The entire meal was fabulous, and I loved being able to try the new Kauai Reserve Three-Year Aged Hawaiian Rum for the first time.
Be sure to get down to Hula Grill Waikiki to try one of the special Koloa Rum cocktails before the month ends!
