A visionary pioneer of Hawaii Regional Cuisine, Chef Peter Merriman opens his newest restaurant,
Merriman's Honolulu, at Ward Village.
Merriman's Honolulu's design is a medley of different concepts, paying homage to Hawaii, while reflecting a bistro-style ambience.
The new restaurant will serve a menu of dishes utilizing sustainable and local ingredients, including familiar faves from other Merriman locations, and each dinner guest will get a taste of Prosecco (after all, Chef Peter believes that each night is a night to throw a party!).
Last night I attended a media event to preview a few of the dishes ahead of tomorrow's grand opening.

Kualoa Ranch "Smokin Oysters" on the 1/2 Shell |
The oysters are presented to the table in a smoke-filled dome!
|
Tako & Country Bread |
The Tako is served "escargot style" - it was so delicious!
|
Fish Taco |
Housemade tortillas are topped with fish, avocado, and a roasted habanero and pineapple salsa.
|
Tableside Poke |
Poke is prepared tableside, with guests being able to note their preferences (spicy, more green onions, etc.).
|
Keahole Lobster Pot Pie |
Huge pieces of lobster, scallops, and Small Kine Farms mushrooms filled this hearty pie.
|
Garlic Butter Keahole Clams |
The clams were tasty, but everyone raved about the accompanying dipping bread.
|
Kalua Pig Quesadilla |
I had the Kalua Pig Quesadilla at
Merriman's Gourmet Pizza & Burgers on Kauai, and I once again enjoyed it. It was served with house made kim chee and a mango chili sauce.
|
Sprouted Rye & Organic Cream Cheese |
The sprouted rye, organic cream cheese, roasted Aloun Farms broccoli, and Maui Tomato was a fave of our table. I did not think I would like the broccoli and cream cheese, but all of the components worked!
|
Molten Chocolate Purse |
The Molten Chocolate Purse is a staple dessert at Merriman's. A decadent chocolate filling is enveloped in phyllo dough, and is sure to please any chocolate-lover!
|
Bread Pudding |
The Bread Pudding, consisting of Maui Gold pineapple, macadamia nuts, and a rum butter sauce, was favored by our table of the two desserts we sampled.
The food was great, and I especially loved the desserts. I already have plans to return!
