Ever since I came here for lunch, I've been telling everyone I know that they HAVE to eat here. Many people have already heard about it, and they all ask "ok wait, it's located in a bar??"
Yes, it is - Cafe Anasia on South Beretania Street. I used to come here a lot during my college days, and it's amazing that they're still around (since that was over 20 years ago). But back to FEAST ...
It's a pop up by Chef Jon Matsubara, who is no stranger to Oahu's dining scene. He's worked at a handful of reputable dining establishments in town, and it sounds like he may be planning to open his own restaurant soon. But for now, you can find him at Cafe Anasia Monday - Fridays from 11 am - 2 pm.
The three of us shared three dishes. First up, the warm butter crab & thick cut bacon sammie - served with a ponzu slaw, umami sauce, on a half foot ciabatta. We upgraded the fries to the garlic & rosemary fries with umami mayo sauce on the side.
This sammie was to-die-for. The next time I dine here, I'm ordering this and not sharing it.
The ginger scallion chicken w/fresh chow fun was amazing.
The third dish we ordered was the daily special - garlic shrimp w/kim chee bibimbap. If you're a fan of bibimbap, you'll like this dish.
If you're planning to dine here, keep these tips in mind:
1) Parking can be a challenge because there are only a handful of stalls in the front, however if there is a parking attendant, he'll probably let you double park.
2) The food takes a while to come out, so if you're short on time, call in your order ahead of time.
3) Try the warm butter crab sammie!!
