HONOLULU Family Fun Run 2019 Recap

We participated in our first fun run as a family this past weekend at the 2019 HONOLULU Family Fun Run.  One of my twin sons and I participated in this event two years ago, but much has changed since then.

Packet pick up was held on Thursday and Friday afternoons at the Mobi store on S. King Street. Picking up our race packets was a breeze and bundled up in these nifty re-usable drawstring Mobi-branded bags.

Each racer received a t-shirt, timer chip, number, reusable water bottle pouch, HONOLULU family magazine, pencil, sunglasses, and a couple of flyers.

We arrived at Ala Moana Beach Park at about 6:40 a.m. We witnessed a beautiful sunrise - the conditions were perfect for today's race!

The boys were psyched and ready to conquer the 5K.

But first, warm-up lead by Fit 4 Mom!

There was plenty of free SWAG from Mobi, in case you forgot yours ....

Runners lined up at 7 am for the start the 5K.

We stayed towards the back as we didn't want to get in the way of the sprinters and faster runners.

The twins surprised me by running the course!

Volunteer sign waivers cheered us on- my boys loved the encouragement!

Daniel enjoyed the scenery along the mauka side of the course.

But he also got serious and  ran as fast as he could.

So did Bradley, who actually kept telling me to go faster!

We stopped for a brief water break on the first lap.

And got high-fives from volunteers at the half way mark.

On the second lap, the boys wanted to stop for a snack. There were a lot of healthy snacks available for the participants.

What a gorgeous day for a run!

Right before the finish line, we got bananas.

We made it!

As we waited for the start of the Keiki Dash, we walked around the Keiki Zone. Captain America and Ariel were here for photo ops.

i9 Sports was on site with demos on the various sports such as soccer and T-ball.

The boys got balloons  from Balloon Monsoon.

There was another warm up session led by Ariel and Captain America for the Keiki Dash.

Then the kids lined up according to age groups. The older ones got to start first since they were the faster ones.

I was proud to see my boys running as fast as they could, without me having to run along with them. But parents were allowed to run with their child if need-be.

Proud mommy moment here as I watched them  cross the finish line.

They were so happy to receive their own  finisher's medal!

Check out the video below of my highlights from the HONOLULU Family Fun Run 2019. See you next year!
