Review: CYBEX Priam Stroller and Cloud Q Plus Car Seat

Disclosure: Complimentary product was received for review purposes. All opinions are entirely my own.

When planning for the Mini, one of the first things on our list of “investment” items was a good crib, glider and of course, a car seat and stroller. All of my friends with kids have travel systems (a car seat that is compatible with and clicked into a stroller) so we spent hours looking over articles online for the one that had the best reviews for safety and usability.

The CYBEX Platinum Priam's four wheels definitely come in handy with our
bumpy sidewalks, quickly putting the Mini to sleep. Naiya just likes going on walks.

When
CYBEX reached out to Hawaii Mom Blog, I spent some time reading up on the brand. I had seen a few bloggers who use their car seats and strollers but wasn’t personally as familiar with the German brand. I learned from their website that “CYBEX designs products for parents while pushing the boundaries that often separate safety, design and function.” In fact, my husband said as much after setting up the car seat that their design is very modern and futuristic, like the “BMW of car seats.”

Having spent some time with my friend's kid's car seats and strollers, and since we had already purchased another car seat and stroller for the Mini, we were able to compare features with what CYBEX had to offer.

CYBEX Cloud Q Plus
The Cloud Q Plus is an infant car seat that marries safety and ergonomic design with a full recline position when used outside of the car. Some of the features that we found that truly differentiated the Cloud Q Plus Car Seat were:
·      Load Leg Base: For those who can't imagine what this is, it’s a metal bar that comes out from the front of the car seat base to help reduce crash energy. Both my husband and I hadn’t seen this yet in any other car seat and we really liked that it provided additional stability for the base, and therefore the baby.
·      Telescopic L.S.P. System: Another feature I hadn’t seen before in a car seat were these bars that pulled out of the side of the car seat frame. They are made to absorb 25% more impact in the event of a side collision. We thought parents would especially appreciate this feature if they have more than one child and can’t position the car seat in the middle seat position.
·      Sun Canopy: Compared to other car seats we found, the sun shade came down lower providing better protection from the elements. This is something that Hawaii parents might find especially appealing since we tend to have almost year-round summers. We also liked that the plastic visor was sturdier and made of thicker plastic than other car seats we looked at, so that if an object were to accidentally fall onto or hit the top of the car seat, it might provide better protection.

The husband shared that the car seat was very easy to install (because I've made him install car seats when I would drive around my friend's kids) and he liked how sturdy the base secured into the car compared to other brands.

CYBEX Platinum Priam
Made for infants from birth to 55 lbs, the CYBEX Platinum Priam is made with leather-like details, premium fabric and rose gold bars. As a travel system it offers three different modes of use: as a travel system with matching carry cot or CYBEX infant car seat (what we’re using). Later, when the Mini is older it can transition into a parent-facing or forward-facing stroller. Some of the features of the CYBEX Platinum Priam that stood out to us were:
·      All Wheel Suspension: The stroller is billed as having “all-wheel suspension” and it really does have just that. Compared with other strollers I’ve used, the ride is incredibly smooth and the wheels turn on a dime, which will come in handy if you need to navigate tight spaces or crowded areas (like the New Baby Expo!).
·      Basket Size: This might not matter to everyone (like maybe guys) but I definitely noticed--and appreciated--the larger-than-average size of the basket beneath the stroller. More space to carry all that baby stuff… or groceries if you don’t want to get a cart! It also comes with a magnetic closure back flap to better access the space and keep your items secure.
·      Four Wheeling: I asked my husband what his favorite feature of the Priam was and he shared that he liked the stability of the stroller’s four wheels. And with four wheels, not only can it be made to lie completely flat, but since it can also be folded compactly into a free-standing unit, it can easily be tucked away in a restaurant or in your home.

The CYBEX Platinum Priam comes with some other handy
accessories like a cup holder, leather handle strap and more!

You can find out more about CYBEX in person at the 22nd Annual New BabyExpo at Neal S. Blaisdell Center, May 18 & 19, 2019. They will be located at booths 260/159. Me and the Mini are excited to go pay them a visit and discover some other new products we didn’t know we needed.

General admission for the Expo is $5.50 while children ages five and under are free. See you there!
