For the past year, my good friend Brandon has been telling me about ZIGU, an izakaya style restaurant in Waikiki. I finally got to try it, and I will admit, it IS good!
There are a lot of seating options at Zigu - at the bar, in the restaurant, or outside on the patio.
We arrived just in time to enjoy a few drinks off of the Happy Hour menu.
Here's what we ate!
Apple Wood Smoked Local Egg Potato Salad |
Fresh Hawaiian Tuna Poke Roll |
Local Basil Wasabi Kauai Shrimp |
Seared Kona Amberjack Sashimi |
"Hula Sweet Rice Flour Brand" Mochiko Fried Chicken |
Braised Pork Belly |
Cole Kale Udon with Fried Kale Chips |
Local Banana Spring Roll with Matcha custard dipping sauce |
Lappert's matcha ice cream |
I loved every single dish, even the ones that I would not normally order, like the potato salad and pork belly! Even the kale was a stretch for me, but the noodles were amazing - very al dente and not at all bitter.
When we arrived at 5:30, the restaurant was pretty empty, but by the time we walked out a couple of hours later, there was a full house, therefore reservations are highly recommended.
They recently started lunch service - I'm definitely going to check it out one of these days!
