Visit San Francisco: Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods is a National Monument and home to coast redwoods trees ranging from 500 to 1,200 years old.  The park is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is open 365 days a year.  It’s been on my bucket list for some time and I finally made a visit a couple of months ago.

If you are driving to the park, you will need to make a parking reservation in advance and select an arrival time.  You can also purchase your park tickets at the same time online.  Once you’ve parked, you’ve most likely lost cell phone reception so be aware you won’t be able to make any calls or have access to GPS.

The park is cool year round with average day time temperatures between 40 and 70 degrees.  It was just about 60 degrees when we visited in November.  Muir Woods contains 6 miles of trails for you to choose from.  My daughter and I followed a simple 1 hour loop trail that gave us a close up of the redwoods.  It was a calming and happy experience to be there in nature.  I would recommend to any nature lover.
