For many fitness enthusiasts who are regulars at their local gym or fitness center, they've received or are about to receive a notification like this one below:
Some fitness clubs are continuing to offer workouts that their members can do at home through their apps. If you are a 24 Hour Fitness member, you can log in to the 24 Hour app to access online workouts, and because of the shutdown, premium coaching and access to new Les Mills online class options are free to members during this period of closure.
And then I read in the news that Peloton was offering free access to their workouts through their app for 90 days for new members, so of course I signed for 90 days of access to thousands of on-demand and live classes, at my fingertips. And in case you were wondering, you do not need to use a Peloton-branded bike or treadmill.
Each class is lead by an instructor who motivates and guides you through each workout.
A playlist is provided, and you can also preload the workout onto your device to eliminate buffering and reduce your cellular data usage. This feature will be helpful for me, as there are cellular dead-spots along some of my regular running routes.
Classes are on-demand, or live. There is a schedule for those you want to work out right as it's happening!
This morning I completed my first workout on the app. It was a 30 minute running workout on the treadmill. Honestly, I was skeptical about it at first - how fun and engaging can a guided treadmill workout be?
Turns out, I liked it a lot. I followed the instructor's cues as far as increasing and decreasing the speeds, and I feel like I got a way better workout in than when I watch my favorite NBC shows. His motivating words of encouragement also got me pumped and pushing myself farther than usual.
If you're looking for a way to stay in shape while the gyms are closed, download the Peloton app and get your sweat on!
