My second inter-island trip return from Hilo was a little different from the first.
I got to the airport 30 minutes before boarding. There was a wait of just a couple minutes at the first station - to scan your travel QR code (or to drop off your paper travel form). The next station, the temp-checking station, was very long, however. It seemed to be just one very long line of TSA precheck and non precheck passengers in a single line, but after a few moments, a National Guard member asked if anyone was TSA precheck, at which time I was able to immediately get my temperature checked and then I headed to the precheck line, while everyone else waited in the very long line for a temp check. I would've really cut it close had I not had precheck.
I think perhaps the temperature screening should be done first, like in Honolulu.
If you are flying out of Hilo and don't have precheck, I would suggest being there 60 minutes before departure, just in case.
