I found a recipe for Caramelized Onion Dip that I tore out from a 2013 issue of Better Homes and Gardens, and since I had a lot of onions on hand, I decided to try it. It turned out more like French Onion Dip, however, but it was still good!
The original recipe said the onions would turn golden in 15-20 minutes, but it took double that amount of time for me. Next time I'll try using the Instant Pot!
French Onion Dip
Ingredients:
- 2 T olive oil
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 2 t sugar
- 1 t salt
- 4 cloves garlic, mincesd
- 1 1/2 c sour cream
- 2/3 c mayo
- 1/4 t ground black pepper
Directions:
- Heat oil in large skillet on medium heat.
- Add onions, sugar, 1/2 t salt, and toss.
- Reduce heat to med-low and cook and stir onions frequently for 30-45 minutes, until a golden brown.
- Remove from heat and cool; stir in garlic.
- In a medium bowl, combine onion mixture, sour cream, mayo, and remaining 1/2 t salt.
- Cover and chill for at least one hour.
The original issue was in the June 2013 issue of Better Homes and Gardens.
