As it stands now, the Traveler Program to be launched on October 15th still seems to have a lot of questions as to whether or not it will be safe enough to open up tourism.
The biggest question I have, is why we are so focused on the tourists, versus our own residents? When travel opened up back in June, I saw on the news grandparents overjoyed to be able to see their grandkids again who live on a different island. I personally know a lot of people (myself included), who would jump at the chance to go to the neighbor island to not only see friends and family, but also to support the local businesses there.
With so many businesses still closed or with restrictions, how much will the tourists really be able to do?
And will it be the cause of a 3rd shutdown?
I saw a statement on social media that proves just how much the plans do not make sense - "So, in order to travel to a neighbor island, we have to fly to the mainland, get tested, and as long as it's negative, we do not need to quarantine."
Businesses are hurting. Families are hurting. People are hurting.
I don't know what will happen in eight days, let alone tomorrow, but I do know that we can keep bringing the numbers down by doing our part with wearing masks and social distancing.
