Visit Big Island: Mom's Hilo

I've been wanting to try Mom's Hilo for a while, and I finally had a chance to order take-out!

Char Siu Roll
According to my very talented chef pal, the rice was perfectly cooked - you could taste every grain and it was al dente in texture.  The pork (although on the menu it's called Char Siu, I really think they mean Chashu) was overdone, however, and he said there was an odd aftertaste.  Overall though, the ingredients - ajitama egg, cucumber, carrot, and green onions, made for a tasty combo.

Yakitori Bites

The Yakitori Bites were really flavorful, but the chicken was on the drier side (my friend said they should not have used breasts).

I had the Shoyu Noodle and added an Ajitama (shoyu egg). The bowl is quite filling - I could only eat half. I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce, and especially enjoyed the char siu and egg.  The char siu was tender, and the egg was so tasty!

Shoyu Noodle
The salad dressing on the salad was tasty as well.

Tan Tan Noodle
My friend had the Tan Tan Noodle, which was topped with Miso Ground Pork. He also added an Ajitama Egg.

I do wish they served noodles with broth - it would have been perfect for the rainy weather, but I'm glad I finally got to try Mom's Hilo!
