I was so excited that I was able to get it on one of Moon & Turtle's Bentos. Chef Mark Pomaski has been experimenting with bentos - offering guests familiar flavors in an elevated format.
The bento I ordered consisted of:
- Nori Maki Mahi Mahi
- Furikake Hash Patty
- Creamy Punachicks Egg Salad
- House Pipikaula
- Pan-Fried Fishcake Dumplings
- House Pickles
Whether you grew up eating bentos or okazu, you'll find a lot of these items very nostalgic, and Chef Mark puts his own twist on these classic local faves.
My personal faves in this box included the egg salad, pipikaula, and mahi.
I actually thought it was a lot of food, and I couldn't eat it all despite having just flown in to Hilo and being famished.
Moon & Turtle currently offers take-out Wednesdays and Saturdays, with orders being accepted the day before. Be sure to call in early so you don't miss out on the bentos and other offerings!
