Visit Page: Antelope Canyon

Lower Antelope Canyon

Antelope Canyon has been on my bucket list for years now and I finally got to check it off this week. Antelope Canyon has two different canyons that you can tour - Upper Antelope and Lower Antelope. As it is on Navajo land, you can only visit with an authorized tour company.

From what I have read, Upper Antelope is more popular as it is a "A" shaped slot canyon, meaning it's narrow at the top and wider at the base. It's easier to walk around than Lower Antelope. In the Lower Antelope canyon tour, you will need to be able to climb up and down steep stairs.

Both tours are not strenuous as it is a less than a mile walk through the canyons that will take roughly an hour. My friends were up to taking both tours so we booked with Adventurous Antelope Canyon Tours for the upper and Ken's Tours for the lower.

If you book with Adventurous Antelope Canyon Tours, ask for Andy. He was our favorite tour guide and made the experience so fun. Be aware no bags are allowed on the tour and you'll take a short ride to get to the canyon. For the lower canyon, you'll walk to the canyon and you are allowed to bring a clear plastic bag.

I loved both experiences and I did think they were different even though the pictures may suggest otherwise. Although it was more difficult to maneuver some parts of the the narrow lower canyon, I enjoyed the experience of the lower slot canyon more because it opened up to some really wide beautiful spaces.

If you ever find yourself in the Vegas/Zion area, consider a drive to Page, Arizona to visit these beautiful canyons.
