When The Cookie Lady Hawaii founder Dale Muramoto decided to retire after doing business in Waipahu for 13 years, friends Keijiro and Maiko Ushijima who were big fans could not imagine a world without her lemon cookies. Seeing their passion and genuine love for her brand, Muramoto felt they were the perfect successors, and decided to sell them the business in the summer of 2021. The Ushijimas pledged to continue baking Muramoto’s family recipes of cookies including lemon, sprinkles, chocolate chip, chocolate chip with macadamia nuts, almond, peanut butter, peanut butter chocolate chip, furikake, and of course, cornflakes. They decided to move the entire operation to the 808 Center on Sheridan Street, where a new retail space with a bake shop enables the couple to broaden their selection of cookie offerings.
“We certainly have big shoes to fill, as Dale Muramoto has done so much for the community,” dotes Maiko Ushijima, co-owner of The Cookie Lady Hawaii. “For now, we are focusing on ensuring that the cookies we serve are the same ones that Hawaii locals fell in love with. Fortunately, Aunty Dale is still very involved with our business, offering her skills for training and quality control purposes. We consider her family, and are grateful that she plans to continue working with us as we look to expand the repertoire of flavors while introducing new ones, such as matcha and lilikoi cookies.”
The Cookie Lady is located at 808 Sheridan Street, Suite 309C, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814. The retail store is open from Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, closed Sunday and Monday. For more information, visit the website at https://cookieladyhawaii.com/.
