I am a firm believer in always looking for ways to improve myself, whether it be improving my diet, workouts, parenting methods, and photography. When I saw an announcement on Instagram that there would be a free workshop on food photography, I registered right away to ensure that I got a spot.
The workshop was hosted by Expressions, which has a studio in Pearlridge Center. One of the photographers from the studio, Sean Perez, lead the workshop by showing us a lot of tips and tricks to taking great photos of food, provided by The Alley Restaurant in Aiea Bowl. Other photographers from Expression Portrait Design, including the owner Jon, also walked around the tables to help the attendees. I learned a lot about lighting, angles, and composition. At the same time, I got to sample some of Aiea Bowl's signature dishes!
I thought I would be the only one without a DSLR camera, but it turned out a majority of the attendees were only equipped with phones. Even though Sean lead the class with his DSLR, he helped us imitate the same shots with our phones. While the quality was not 100% the same, we were still able to capture some nice shots with our phones with a few adjustments to lighting, angles, and props.
Thank you Expressions and Aiea Bowl for putting on such an informative event. Follow @expressions808 on Instagram for updates on future workshops!
