Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant recently opened in the space formerly occupied by MW Restaurant (MW moved to the Velocity Honolulu Building on the corner of Kapiolani and Ward), featuring dim sum during lunch service. Yes, dim sum!
Unfortunately reservations are not accepted during lunch service, so it's FCFS. Parking can also be a challenge, so as I headed here to meet a couple of friends for lunch, I crossed my fingers and toes that I'd find a parking spot, and that there wouldn't be a wait list for a table. Luckily a spot opened up as I pulled into the parking lot, and my friends got there earlier than me and got a table for us.
Here's what the three of us shared family-style:
Congee w/abalone & Egg |
Abalone Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf |
Crispy Green Onion Cake |
Shang Hai Pork Dumpling |
Pan-Fried Turnip Cake |
Pork Hash w/Seafood (Siu Mai) |
Shrimp Look Funn |
The dishes all came out in a timely manner, and they were all delicious. My favorites were the shrimp look funn, pork hash, sticky rice, and the congee. We had ordered the house pan fried noodles, which never arrived, so we cancelled it, which was fine because we were full from all of our dim sum dishes. Our bill came out to about $20 per person, which we all felt was really reasonable for the quality and amount of food we ordered. I hope to return to try some items on their regular menu!
