While driving from Mississippi to Florida, I noticed a sign for the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. We didn't have time to stop, but the next day we went to check it out.
The C.L. Dees Nature Trail is a very easy 3/4 mile trail near the Visitor Center (which is closed on Sundays, the day we went, so we had no restroom access).
The trail takes you through a path of all sorts of flora, many with ID markers, and down to the Bayou Castille.
We saw all sorts of interesting plants, including carnivorous pitcher plants!
We did not see any cranes (although my family did see another type of large bird), but we still had a great time exploring the outdoors in Mississippi!
