Our first dinner in New Orleans was at the family-friendly Mandina's Restaurant. Specializing in Italian and Cajun cuisine, Mandina's was quite crowded when we arrived, but we lucked out getting a table right away (when we left, the wait was at least 30 people deep!).

The Fried Eggplant was piled high - I never saw an order that huge! The Crawfish Cakes were humongous. They did not skimp on the crawfish, and the cakes were easily shareable amongst our family of 5!
The Turtle Soup was amazing. I never had turtle before, but it was very mild, and the broth was just robust! Everyone in the family tried the soup, and everyone liked it.

I ordered a quintessential New Orleans dish (and a Monday special) - Red Beans + Rice and Italian Sausage.

Salisbury Steak |
Each of the above entrees were served with fries, and the Salisbury Steak was also accompanied by string beans.
The portions were extremely generous, and because we filled up on appetizers and bread, there were still plenty of leftovers for the next day. Prices are very reasonable, and service was amazing.
I would highly recommend Mandina's for a great meal in New Orleans - and get there early!
